About Martin LaMar

When you hear the term “real estate development,” you may immediately envision a career filled with glitz and glamour. However, the road to achieving success in real estate or any other area of the business field is anything but glamorous.

Martin LaMar would be quick to tell you that his own success as the regional vice president of McCormack Baron Salazar, a leading real estate development company, along with his many other business accomplishments over the past two decades have been the result of both hard work and a relentless spirit.

Real Estate & Housing Background

LaMar has over a decade of broad expertise in affordable housing management and operations, which includes a deep understanding of public and affordable housing programs. At McCormack Baron Salazar, he is fully responsible for several aspects of his territory’s communities, including their budgetary, marketing, operational, and financial aspects.

When it comes to real estate and housing, LaMar primarily focuses on community development as well as consulting in this area, property and assessment management, human capital, sustainability, and new market tax credits. In fact, he has captured positive attention and garnered accolades for years due to his demonstrated skill set in these areas. For instance, LaMar became one of the Atlanta Business Chronicle 40 Under 40 winners in 2012. He was also hand-picked to lead the Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority and to help to lead the Philadelphia Housing Authority.

Academic Background

LaMar attributes his business and real estate success in part to his education, which gave him both the foundation and the fuel he needed to excel. His educational achievements include a finance bachelor’s degree from Alabama A&M University; a social work master’s degree and a public administration master’s degree from the University of Washington; and a business administration master’s degree from Brenau University.

Beyond the Office

However, LaMar is more than his job title or his impressive business executive resume. He has also been extremely active in multiple organizations, including the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. This trust is a nonprofit organization in the art field that promotes cultural and economic development in the Downtown Pittsburgh area. LaMar is also a member of the University of Washington Alumni Association as well as Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

In addition, when LaMar is not busy at work, he enjoys traveling, playing golf, and reading. His personal interests include cigars, automobiles, and technology. The Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, resident is also an avid sport fan, rooting for his hometown teams of the Steelers in football, Pirates in baseball, and Penguins in ice hockey. However, the East Coast sport fanatic admits that part of his heart is out West, as he loves the Los Angeles Lakers as well.
